2009...A Look Ahead.

Well, get ready to pop the cork, kiss your loved one, and take down your 2008 calendar's 'cause it's almost New Year's Eve! Many are gearing up for another year and another set of resolutions...that oddly keep repeating themselves! Every year someone on the radio or on any news channel declares the closing year "...A Year To Remember!", but how about the year to come? 2008 brought us many things including the longest Presidential Campaign in history, it brought us one of the highest gas hikes in history, and it also brought us into the recession that we're in right now. So now what? How is this a "Year To Remember"? Wouldn't this be a year to forget?

Let's make 2009 a Year To Remember right now! Why wait until December 31st of next year? Let's get those New Year's Resolutions cracking and let's think positive for the upcoming year. Percy's is gearing up for a great year with a New Year's Day Sale to remember this Thursday from 12pm to 5pm. Come to Percy's for great deals including these and be sure to check back tomorrow for all the details of Thursday's ad. You won't want to miss this!

This Is It...2 More Days To Go!

As I've said in the past, holidays are a wonderful thing when you take the time to relax and enjoy it as it comes and goes. We all get too wrapped up in everything else going on that we forget to stop and enjoy it. Shopping has been going on for months now and is almost catching up to how long the Presidential Debate lasted :)
We at Percy's are sending off the BEST sales of the year for the last 2 days of the shopping season. You can see the HOT deals here. Get them before they are all gone! DVD Players for $39, 1080p HDTV's as low as $999 and GPS Navigation Systems starting at $99 after mail-in rebate.

My Quick Thought:

Most of you are already off work, out of school, on break, or on vacation so you're enjoying at least the time off. But ever notice it's when the holiday is over, that you wonder where it went?

If Bing Crosby were alive today he would be a gazillionaire! His recording of "I'm Dreaming Of A White Christmas" has sold over 100 million copies according to the Guiness Book of Records 50 million of those being sold as just singles. I wonder how many people went onto iTunes recently and downloaded it. I know for us here in the Northeast we will thoroughly enjoy a White Christmas this year with an average of 18" of snow that just fell in 2.5 days. It started Friday and for some, didn't quit until last night. But not only that, I've also heard from friends with family in Seattle, WA. that snow is falling at an alarming rate with numbers unseen since at least 1972. And how about Las Vegas? Las Vegas got 3 inches of snow and hasn't seen the white stuff since 1974. Are we all destined for a White Christmas?

Share the holidays with those you love and take the time out of your busy schedule to remember the holiday now...instead of when it's over.

Happy Holidays to you and yours this year.

See you in 2009 and as always,

-Brian

Please buy Local

At this time of the year , we all get bombarded with ads from lots of family owned local stores and national chains ( big box) trying to sell their products to you for the holidays.

Being a locally owned, family owned retail store I am biased towards buying and supporting family owned businesses.

When shopping this holiday season and throughout the year, Please try and shop at your local family owned and operated business.

I assure you the price will be right, (most stores match prices) the service will be better than the big box stores, (the owners live in the area and do not want bad press ), and you will feel good about supporting the local community as more dollars stay locally when you buy local.

Power Surges

This week Percy's has been getting lots of calls from our friends who have bought items here and due to the Ice storm and snow storms, have lost the use of these items due to power surges.
What should you do if you have a Tv, audio system, or appliance that was power surged and how can we all prevent these issue from coming up?

1. If your appliances, audio or video has been power surged and you have lost the use of them, please come down to the store so we can get you an invoice on what the replacement value of those items would be. You may then give that to your insurance adjuster. Many home owners policies have this protection.

2. Always buy a good....er, great surge protector on every electronic you buy. To spend hard earned money on a beautiful TV and home entertainment system and not buy, or purchase a inexpensive surge protector is not very wise. Please come in and see one of our trained team members and we will gladly show you the difference between a good inexpensive surge protector and a great inexpensive one that actually does what it is supposed to do.

2. If your power is out, UN-plug your electronics and appliances asap. When power does come on, there will be a powerful signal sent to your house, that can affect equipment that is cold. Be careful.

3. Appliance service; Percy's services what we sell. If you bought your appliances here and need service due to the Ice and snow storm, please call us. We are here to help you.

100th Post Spectacular!

Wow,

It's our 100th post and also only 8 more days til Christmas! I'm hoping that all are well and are getting excited for the upcoming holiday. Still doing any shopping? My plans are to wrap up my gift shopping by Friday so that next week won't be too busy.

Here in the Northeast we've been crippled with an ice storm that has people still without power and could be that way until after the holiday. It's put a damper on alot of holiday cheer and has left hundreds of thousands without power. So far, no casualties have been reported, but the initial report stated that over 1 million people were without power the day after the storm hit. My hope is that everyone gets cleared up by the holiday.

So while all that was going on, percys.com was a-buzz with tons of responses to the last post about the Blu-ray players. We sold so many in 2 days that we had to get an emergency order rush shipped to us so we can get them out for the holidays. If Blu-ray is on your mind for the holidays, then you've only got at least 1 more day to get your order in to have it shipped on time. We can not guarantee anything when it comes to UPS and it's delivery. But if Blu-ray is still vague to you, then let me help you choose.

I can remember it like it was yesterday....although it was actually about 12 years ago. I bought my very first DVD player. It was made by Sanyo and was priced at about $150. The first movie I bought as Ronin with Robert De'Niro. I remember buying this, bringing it home, and sitting in awe at this new (at least new to me) technology. I remember fast-forwarding and amazed that there weren't any tracking lines, amazed at the menu options, and even amazed at how clear it was. It was great!

Last year I bought a Playstation 3 complete with a Blu-ray built into it. I plugged it into my 57" DLP 1080p TV and was awe-struck again...11 years later...at the picture I was looking at. The clearest of clear pictures was screaming at me from my TV and I instantly fell in love with Blu-ray. As each new release comes out, they come out with a Blu-ray. So you know all those are covered. But what about the "oldies"? Don't worry, all the movies you love are slowly but surely coming out on Blu-ray too.

This holiday season, all Blu-ray players have drastically been reduced to as low as $199 making it easier for you to complete your own "home theater". This is the year for Blu-ray. If you need a little more reassurance, please come to Percy's and let one of our Electronics Specialists show you the difference between Blu-ray and standard definition DVD's. It will blow you away for sure!

Shop our selection of Blu-ray players here.

Remember, time is running out! Christmas is just around the corner. Hurry!

Blu-ray Becomes More Affordable

Up until now there have only been a select few companies (Sony & Pioneer to name a few) that took Blu-ray and made it what it is today. Now that Blu-ray reigns supreme, other companies are following suit and coming out with their own Blu-ray players. But is it possible to come out with a Blu-ray player, make it affordable, but still maintain the same picture and sound quality that Sony has to offer?

Cnet.com did a review of the Panasonic DMP-BD35 Blu-ray player and they used the Sony Playstation 3 as their "control" when doing comparisons. The DMP-BD35 got their Editors Award for Excellence for quality and value. They said that the DMP-BD35 matched perfectly to the Sony Playstation 3 but cost almost half the price. It just goes to show that high quality...IS affordable these days. Blu-ray's are also selling out of stores quickly this year. For that reason, Percy's got a huge shipment of these DMP-BD35's and the supplies won't last forever. The best part? Percy's are selling these Blu-ray players for only $229. How's that for a Merry Christmas?! Call or click today to get your's before they are all gone!

17 Days Left And Counting....

My Christmas lights are up, haven't pulled the tree out as of today, but it DID snow on Sunday...so a little Christmas spirit is in the air. For some, it's almost a 3 month holiday. They decorate the bushes, the gutters, and yes, even put those inflatable snowmen in the front yard that plays Christmas music. If you are the extremest than this time of the month is crucial. Christmas cookies are FLYING out of your kitchen quicker than you can make them. Why not check out a new wall oven. Maybe it will be your answer for all your cooking support this season. Already have one that you love? Have us check it out to see if it's ready for the holidays. You can never be too sure.

But alas, holiday shopping is still in full swing (remember those of us who wait till last minute), and some of the great deals of the year are still coming out each week. This week, we have kept 2 items up because we sold out of them and got another truckload in, but we've replaced two items with even BIGGER deals this week.

Check out the list of this weeks HUGE Deals!

Keep checking back later on this week as I may have some more bigger deals coming your way this holiday season.

Weekly Specials From Now 'Til Christmas

Most people still haven't started their Christmas shopping yet. Me? I rarely ever start early. Then again, I always waited until the night before to do a project...even though I had 2 weeks to do it. No, I usually go out and get my Christmas Eve grab gift at CVS an hour before my family shows up, I'll do my wife's Christmas shopping sporadically throughout the month but solidify it the last week before Christmas. Everyone else on my list get done a week before as well. Hey, it's not MY fault, I enjoy getting the last good deals of the holiday season.

Ankle deep in a recession and on average, 61% of Americans state that they do not plan on making cut-backs on how much they spend this Holiday Season. As for the other 39% of us, we have Percy's weekly deals! Don't want to spend much but still want to get a lot? Look no further than here.

Last year the trend pointed to a surge in GPS systems and the GPS companies put good rebates on their products which we extended to you. This year, you as customers, have showed us that TV's are the way to go this year. TV prices have had a steady trend downward and are becoming more and more affordable. Blu-ray took over the high-def market last year around this time and Blu-ray players have also had a steady decline in price. With the DTV era approaching quickly, more and more people are going out and making their home 100% digital and we've got the low prices to help you do this.

How does a 32" Sony Bravia 720p TV for only $499 sound?

How about a 40" Sony 1080p TV for only $899 sound?

Sounds good, huh?

This is just a part of Percy's Weekly Specials going on now until Christmas. Find new deals each week and you never know, waiting until the last week before Christmas, just may pay off after all!

Liebherr To Join All Star Cast of Appliances

When you think Liebherr, you may think of a crane, a dump truck, or even concrete truck mixers. But first and foremost, think refrigerators and freezers. Liebherr is Liebherr-International AG and the global headquarters are located in Bulle, Switzerland, with North American headquarters located in Newport News, Virginia. It is a family run company and it has been passed down two generations. But even though they make heavy equipment and machinery doesn't mean that they can't make a refrigerator and a freezer that are award winning.

Liebherr is the only manufacturer in North America to have 100% of its indoor refrigeration Energy Star rated. The compressors are constantly running at just the right speed to keep everything cool and crisp, while eliminating the power surges caused by compressors turning off and on all the time. Liebherr's patented BioFresh system keeps your food at the ideal climate for perfect preservation and long-term freshness. It's SuperQuiet compressor sits in the rear of the unit at the bottom allowing it to be virtually silent to the human ear.

Liebherr refrigerators and freezers come in a wide variety from built-in to freestanding all which can be customized to fit your kitchen's decor. From stainless to cabinet panels you can either have your refrigerator or freezer out in the open for all to see, or conceal it behind a cabinet door for the best in full integration.

Percy's is proud to introduce Liebherr to the already all star cast of high quality appliances we carry in our showroom. Please call to set up an appointment today to see our selection, and check www.percys.com soon for selections to be purchased online.

Holiday Season Is Within Smelling Distance

I went outside today and it was kind of warm for a November day. As I walked to Dunkin Donuts there was a smell in the air. This smell was the smell of snow. Although the thought would scare much of you, snow IS on it's way. Not today though. First, we have to have Veterans Day, Thanksgiving, and then maybe some snow can then fall by Christmas.

Almost all the leaves are gone from the trees around here and the thought of a turkey in the oven with family surrounding the table is a good vision in my head right now. But what if you went to go put the turkey in the oven, and the oven didn't work? It's the holiday, nobody's open, you NEVER thought this to be possible and now you have people waiting to eat. What to do?

For most, entertaining is the culmination of years of cooking experience, decorating, and planning. There are at least 4 holidays I can think of where an individual would find this to be very important. It would be a bad situation if you went to pre-heat your oven and you found that it wasn't working properly. Something like that would ruin the holiday for most and would give business to local restaurants everywhere that day. How could this type of situation have been prevented? A simple phone call could save the day. 1-866-590-1777.

Now's the time to have your oven, stove, and ventilation checked before the big holiday season hits. If you have in-warranty or out-of-warranty items, give us a call and our service technicians would be happy to come out and assess any problems that may occur with your cooking equipment. It's never too early to have these things checked out. We'll take care of you and make sure that your holiday is filled with good food and good spirits. Call us today.

1 Year On The House!

About 90% of all manufacturers come standard with a 1 year warranty that covers all parts and labor. That's always reassuring when you're deciding what appliances to purchase or even a TV for that matter. But what if I told you that Percy's would give you an additional year warranty for free on top of the first year's warranty? You'd say "That sounds great!" All you have to do is purchase any dishwasher, wall oven, over the range microwave, or ventilation piece and have Percy's professionals handle the installation and we'll give you an extra year warranty! It's that simple. Most people buy these items and hire another contractor to come and install these products. Why do that? We will sell you your next appliance for less, professionally install it, AND give you another year for free. The choice is simple. Call or come to Percy's and ask your salesperson how you can get 2 years of piece of mind on your next purchase. Don't forget to bring this with you!

Fall Is Around The Corner...But Ain't Here Yet!

I drove down my street last week in West Boylston, and when I came to the corner to make the turn towards my house, I had to do a double-take. Much to my surprise, the big maple tree on the corner of the street is ALREADY turning orange and red! Half of the leaves have already fully turned over in color and some are even falling rapidly to the ground. It's mind boggeling to see that after almost a full month of rain and a very rainy summer, that the leaves are already starting to phase over to "fall-esque" colors. Labor Day is less 2 weeks away and next thing you know I'll be sending a blog out these wishing you a Happy Thanksgiving and a Happy Holidays!

The fact of the matter is that we've still had some warm days and there are a few more to come. I had my air conditioner on yesterday and let me tell you, it was warm out! If you haven't already picked up your air conditioner then now is the time. Percy's is taking 10% off all in-stock air conditioners. Even if you don't use it this season, purchase it while it's on sale and save it for next year!

Grilling season is far from over and Percy's still has some Weber grills in-stock and ready to be assembled and cooking by Labor Day. Save 10% on Weber grills and grilling accessories also. Come in the store to shop our selection of grills and see why buying from Percy's IS the smart choice.

Winter may be on the way, but at Percy's, we're still trying to keep cool and save you money on Weber grills! Stop by today and see the savings!

" The ENERGY STAR qualified Ascenta is a major step up to a Bosch premium dishwasher that offers high efficiency, quiet performance and visually appealing design—as the superior alternative to an all-plastic tub dishwasher. It does this while still providing core exclusives such as the ECOSENSE™ Wash Management System, which examines the soil level in the water and customizes the water consumption and heat to save on energy costs, and a overflow protection system for safety."*

Start Early and Beat The Crowds

The Governor of Massachusetts (Deval Patrick) has signed the law on July 30th, lifting the 5% sales tax for August 16th and 17th. On that Saturday and Sunday everybody is going to go out and shop for whatever they can get their hands on for under $2,500 (per item not transaction). The normal stuff (food, clothing, etc.) that's already tax free will still be tax free but items like boats, cars, tobacco products, and anything above $2,500 will not see the tax free holiday. Unfortunately, gas will not see the tax relief either which is something we're all in need for. But goods like tv's, washers, dryers, refrigerators, audio systems, speakers, and stoves are on the docket to lose the tax for these 2 days.

But why wait???

Come down to Percy's now when you don't have to walk through a mob of people and wait in long lines for a new plasma, LCD, or side by side refrigerator. From now all the way up until the final day of the Tax Free Weekend, Percy's will discount everything 5% saving you the time and the hassle of shopping on that weekend. Don't waste your time or gas. Come to Percy's and let a trained professional help you find what you need and start saving today.

This promotion is in-store only. If you need directions to our store you can find them here.

3 Main Types of Cooking 3 Part Series:

Part 3 - Gas

Superior Handling, Fine Lines, Untouched Power Distribution...does this sound like a car ad? Well it's not. It's describing a few of the stellar attributes of gas cooking. Yes, I've saved gas for last mostly because it's features and benefits make it the "olde-tyme" best in it's class. With burners up to 18,000 BTU's (British Thermal Unit: the quantity of heat required to raise the temperature of one pound of water one degree Fahrenheit at a specified temperature (as 39°F)*) these cooktops and stoves can really crank when they need to be. But what makes these so special that it makes everybody want one?

Well, let's face it, turn your tv remote to the Food Network and watch Emeril, Giada, Bobby Flay, or any of those professional (Paula Dean is my favorite) cooks, you see them cooking with gas (no pun intended). It's the cooking image that every aspiring chef dreams of having. The ability to boil and then simmer with the turn of a dial and have it be INSTANT is remarkable. Where else can you find 8 big burners with the power to boil on all 8 and simmer on all 8? You can find it in a Wolf R488 gas range for sure! The cooking system on this gas stove is unparalleled to anything else in it's class. This is what cooking dreams are made of.

The only electricity a gas stove uses is that single spark to ignite the gas. Then it's all LP or natural gas after that. If you're wondering, natural gas is actually cheaper to get than liquid propane and you don't have to deal with the tank in your yard. There isn't much of a difference in performance between either fuel type but again, it's all about preference and convenience. As I spoke in yesterday's blog, the only downfall is the hovering gas prices that would make people second guess what type of stove to buy.

But just like induction, gas has unlimited capacity to cook at whatever speed you can imagine and can boil a pot of water very quickly. You can choose between sealed or open burners (I prefer sealed because of how easy they are to clean. Believe me, I've cleaned both in the showroom here, and sealed is MUCH easier) and you can start as low as $459 for a 30" gas stove and as high as 5 digit prices for Wolf or any other professional brand like Dacor or Thermador.

I hope you found this 3 part "mini-series" to be even a little helpful. When you are thinking about remodeling or replacing, I hope you give us a call or stop in and see our professionals for a personal tour of our showroom and a test drive of some of the best in cooking today.

Take Care,

-Brian

3 Main Types of Cooking 3 Part Series:

Part 2 - Electric

I looked alot online today about the sheer benefits of electric cooking. To my amazement, I came up empty handed. Not saying that there aren't any benefits, but it's almost like electric cooking is such a norm now-a-days, that we don't need to know of any benefits. Electric cooking has almost become the 3rd least desirable (or performable) cooking source yet the number 1 in convenience.

Invented around 1892 in Montreal, the stove quickly became the rage and is still evolving today. From single coiled burners to bring when camping, to multiple burner, warming zone, and bridge burners on a single 30" stove, electric cooking is still "old reliable".

Most Americans only know electric cooking and don't know how to approach gas. They don't know of the safety features they offer, they don't know the benefits they have to offer, and they don't want to attempt it either. That's why electric cooking is so versatile. It's basically made for the beginner cook all the way up to I'd even say the semi-pro to pro cook.

Just about every housewife or aspiring chef dreams of re-doing their kitchen and slapping a huge 48" gas range with 8 burners and full benefits of gas cooking, but end up remodeling with a new ceramic top 30" range with 4 burners. Not a problem with that. They're sticking with what they know and what they're comfortable with.

I'm basically writing this blog series to help those of you who are either building or remodeling. Almost 70 percent of new homes are being lined up with natural gas (if available in the area) and kitchens are being supplied with both and the decision is being left up to the homeowner. This makes decisions easier for you. Why? Well, if you endure 12 years with the same electric range, and you decide to swap over to gas, you can with the help of a plumber (and a new gas stove of course).

I recently replaced all my appliances in my kitchen. I have both electric and gas piped to my stove's resting place, and my home is almost 100 years old. But when I looked around for a new stove my Mom suggested going with gas and I decided along with everybody else in America, and that's to stick with what you know, and that's electric. I own an electric stove and I love it. It's been MY dream stove for quite sometime, and now I can use it everyday. But is it better than gas?

Without splurging on my third installment on this topic, I will tell you that electric cooking is now being viewed as the "non-green" style of cooking. Due to the fact that electric cooking uses more electricity to heat up the cooking surface and maintain it during cooking, it can't stand up next to the competitors such as gas and induction as far as efficiency. If you look at that and shrug it off like gas prices, than this will never change your views. However, there is one BIG reason why Americans are flocking to electric ranges like Hybrid and Hydrogen Vehicles, you guessed it. Gas prices.

People don't want to pay for gas anymore, it's becoming a normal topic today. So the same is evident in the kitchen. People don't want to have to pay for gas heat AND gas cooking. Electric cooking doesn't seem like the 3rd least desirable anymore now does it? I'll be back tomorrow with part 3 of my 3 main types of cooking.

Take Care,

-Brian

3 Main Types of Cooking 3 Part Series:

Part 1 - Induction:

Induction cooking is a style of cooking that has been around since the 1970's and is not as widely popular as electric or gas. However, more and more companies are manufacturing this cooking style, and I'll touch on a few major benefits in a minute. But first, a little history of Induction Cooking.

The overall concept of cooking with high frequency magnetic fields was actually conceived in the early 20th century. It wasn't until the 1970's when it was "modernized" for home cooking. Westinghouse Electric Corporation was the first company to successfully develop the first in-home model and it was dubbed the "Cool Top Induction Range". Today, Induction Cooking is more popular in the European markets then anywhere else. But the overall idea has stayed the same since the beginning: an electrically conductive pot put on a magnet to conduct electricity to the pot thus making the pot hot. You're probably saying "Well wait a minute Brian, you mean to tell me that I'm going to put a pot on a magnet, which produces electricity, and I'm not going to get electrocuted?" That's right!

You see, in order for induction to work properly, you need to use special pots and pans. Any normal or average pan will actually cause the cooktop to not even work as a safety feature. Once that current is secure between an electrically insulated pot and the cooking surface, the cooktop will resume normal functions.

Ok, so now that we've got some of the basics down, you may want to find out why induction could be the future of cooking even though it's almost a century old.

1. Cooking Speed.

There are many out there who can do their own tests (If you have an induction cooktop and have tried the boil test, please reply to this post), but the fact of the matter is definitely true...I feel safe enough to say that I believe that induction cooking is the BEST at heating up the fastest, yes, even better than gas cooking. I've been to a cooking demonstration where they had a Wolf Gas Cooktop next to a Wolf 15" Induction Cooktop, and both boiled the same amount of water...within seconds of eachother! But that's not the only reason I feel that Induction is far superior.

2. Heat Distribution.

If you're looking for the safest and most "child proof" form of cooking in your home than look no further. Induction does the best at keeping the heat ONLY in the area that the cookware touches the magnet. So, if you have a 14" frying pan, and a 12" cooking surface, only the 12" of space will cook. Looking at this picture, you can see that half of the egg is fried, and the other half is still raw! In the other picture, you see a specially made pot with a triangle taken out of it. In that cooking area on a normal cooktop, the ice would have already boiled off by now, but on induction, it simply melts over time. The best part about induction is residual heat. There is none! When you pull a pot off of boiling spaghetti, you turn to go to the sink to strain it, and you then go back to the cooktop, the area may already be cool. Traditional cooktops hold alot more heat in and do so for long periods of time. On induction, as soon as the current is shut off to the magnet, the heat practically disappears. Young children reaching up to touch the cooktop will find nothing more that a room temperature cooktop. How's that for safety?

3. Instant Adjustments.

The final reason why Induction is a better choice of cook surface, is the fact that you can go to a raging boil to a warm simmer in the snap of a finger! And vice versa. Not only that, but an induction cooktop can harvest the same maximum cooking power as a big btu'd gas counterpart.

Still not convinced? Electrolux Icon has a working Induction Cooktop in the Percy's showroom. Saturday August 30th, Icon is having a cooking demonstration from Noon to 3pm here at Percy's. I encourage you to come down and check it out. If you can't wait until then, schedule a test drive today and one of our experts will give you a personal demonstration that will blow your mind! Come see the tomorrow of cooking, today!

Freshen Your Washer With Affresh!

If you own a front load washer and you've had it for a while, you may know about the fowl smell that occasionally comes out of it. No, it's not your gym socks, but instead it's mold and mildew growing in your washer (behind the gasket to be more specific). You've purchased the BEST washer on the planet in cleanibility but for some reason...with great power, comes great responsibility. Many have used straight bleach and ran the washer on a clean washer cycle, but that only covers up the odor. How do you get it cleaned deep down to the core?

The answer is in a tablet that looks alot like the same one you put in your toilet tank. It's round, white, and smells lemony. It's called Affresh. Each Affresh tablet is individually wrapped and come 3 to a pack. How does it work you ask? It's simple. Open the package, take a tablet out of the wrapper, and put it in your washer by itself. Put it on a clean washer cycle and let it go. Don't put it in the detergent dispenser, simply put it right in the drum of the washer. I know, it makes ALOT of noise as it rolls around the drum, but trust me, it's ok.

Once a month you put this tablet in your washer and the end result is a non-smelly laundry room (except for when you leave your dirty gym clothes in there) and a very clean washer.

Another way to prevent odor's in your washer is to leave the door open a little bit after the wash is done. Typically I leave mine ajar with the laundry basket holding it open just a little allowing air to get in to the drum. This helps dry out the washer and keeping water from building up and causing the mildew. Also leave the dispenser open a little bit to do the same thing. My rule of thumb is to leave the washer ajar until the load is done in the dryer (around 45 minutes).

If I notice build-up growing on the glass that's when I know the washer is getting dirty. In this case I'd just grab a Lysol disinfecting wipe and wipe the glass down and also wipe inside AND outside of the rubber gasket to ensure all areas are cleaned. You can use bleach, don't get me wrong, but I wouldn't rely on bleach as the main avenue for keeping your washer clean. It will come back and fight you in the end.

Believe it or not, but the detergent you use may also have an adverse affect on the way your washer smells. I use the ecoVantage detergent we sell here. It's good for about 120 loads, it's powder, and it's made specifically for front load washers. I've had my washer for a year and I'm halfway through my second tub (that's with about 2 full loads a week average). I've also never had any issue with any fowl smells from my washer since I've owned it. Why? On top of using the Affresh, using the ecoVantage detergent is good for the washer because it is an odorless detergent. You can't have an odor from something that never had a smell to begin with. That may be untrue for some things, but it's not when it comes to washing machines!

Recap:

So, in order to clean your washer thoroughly I strongly recommend using Affresh. For on the spot cleaning jobs I'd use Lysol wipes. And for added cleanliness I also use ecoVantage detergent. Oh, and by the way, I forgot to tell you. My washer is in my kitchen. So if you try these methods, I guarantee your washer will improve. I know this because I can cook in my kitchen and not gag at the smell of my washer. If your washer just CAN'T smell any better, call our service department and we'll replace your gasket. In some cases the gasket is just too moldy and the cleaner just can't fix it. Don't worry, it can be fixed! Just call our service department. If you start running the Affresh now, you'll save alot of money in the future.

Why Would I Want A Performance Guarantee?

If you are currently shopping around for a new washer, tv, refrigerator, or even a new home theater system, the most researched part of anyone's purchase other than the features and benefits, is the warranty. People want to feel secure that whenever something happens to their product, they will be covered 100%. That's not always the case. Most products come with only a one year or even 6 month warranty and it doesn't cover everything.

Webster's definition of warranty is:

1a: a real covenant binding the grantor of an estate and the grantor's heirs to warrant and defend the title 1b: a collateral undertaking that a fact regarding the subject of a contract is or will be as it is expressly or by implication declared or promised to be

2: something that authorizes, sanctions, supports, or justifies : warrant
3: a usually written guarantee of the integrity of a product and of the maker's responsibility for the repair or replacement of defective parts*

Notice the part that says "supports" & "written guarantee". These words bring that sense of security to a customer. If I were to be shopping for a $4,000 Plasma TV, I sure wouldn't want only a 6 month warranty with it. What if something bad happened and I knew I couldn't get it fixed even though it wasn't my fault? Percy's wants to go a step further.

Make any purchase: a washer, dishwasher, fridge, tv, speaker, range, just about anything...and Percy's wants to offer you a chance to have your piece covered for up to 5 years! No, this service is not free, but, it is very beneficial to you. Here are some of the things it covers:

Appliances Guarantee:

Coverage for most major brands.
$200 food spoilage protection.
Coverage on failures due to power surges
Unlimited service calls.
No hidden costs or deductibles.
Friendly and helpful customer service.
Quality service no matter where you are in the US.
No lemon policy*
Transferable coverage if you move.
* (subject to certain limitations)

Electronics Guarantee

Coverage for most major brands.
We pay for functional parts and labor costs*
Unlimited service calls.
No hidden costs or deductibles.
Surge protection*
No lemon policy*
Friendly, toll-free assistance.
Transferable coverage
* (subject to certain limitations)
See Store for complete details

Probably the best part of Percy's Performance Guarantee is that you don't even have to have a serious issue with your piece. If you find that your orange juice is not as cold as the day it was when you bought the fridge, Percy's will come and fix it for free. That's up to 5 years of total security. But wait, it doesn't end there.

Purchase a Performance Guarantee from Percy's, and if within the 3 or 5 years of owning your piece you don't have it serviced for ANYTHING, Percy's will give you half the purchase price back in the form of a gift card at the end of the term. That's unheard of. When was the last time you bought an extended warranty from someone and got half back after 3 or 5 years?

Summetime Leasure

It's getting to the time of the year when the smell of hot dogs and hamburgers are filling the neighborhoods and streets. People are laughing and playing in their yards, swimming in their pools, and enjoying one another's company. That's right, it's now officially summer. Time to spend time on your deck or patio. Also time to go on vacation...for some.

With gas prices higher than a bag full of food from the McDonald's Dollar Menu, going on vacation this year is becoming questionable. As a matter of fact, 37% of Americans are saying that they won't go on vacation this year due to the rising gas prices. 21% are still going to go along with their plans for vacations this summer, while the rest of Americans say they hadn't planned to go an vacation at all just "because"*.

The busiest travel season is between June, July, and August. Americans rely on vacations as being a staple in our lives. Each year visiting a new location on our planet, or to some, going back to our childhood spot and just getting away from all the hustle and bustle of the world today. We talk about all the issues on a daily basis, and to some there is no other way to get away then to, well, get away. Money is no option. These people say "Gas prices? Who noticed?" But it's unfortunate that there ARE things in our country today that are making travel impossible and it's a reality. So what to do? Well, some people are going to closer locations, some are using different means of transportation, while others are just cutting down the amount of trips they take, or just plain staying home.

C'mon, there are lots of good things to do for the summer while on vacation at home. The attic hasn't been cleaned for a while, the basement could use some tidying up,...how about that garage fellas? I'm doing a ton of yard work to try to make my yard more enjoyable for me and my family. Building my patio is something definitely in my plans for my vacation. Maybe a day trip here and there, but you won't find any hotels booked with my name on it this year. You may be doing the same as me this year. There's nothing wrong with that! Sometimes we as Americans just need to slow down and catch up with our lives and our families.

One thing I'm planning on this summer is BUYING a grill once my patio is done. I can't get through the summer without cooking at least 1 hamburger on a grill. Here at Percy's we not only have grills, but we also have the coolest things made for the outdoors that are sure to turn heads this summer. Percy's has the best selection of grills to start, but how about a refrigerator on your patio? You can be the entertainer for the neighborhood with your grill, your refrigerator, and maybe an ice maker or even a kegerator outside. You can also have your outside patio or deck area wired for sound with outdoor speakers and play your favorite music while entertaining. All the money you save from not going on vacation can go towards something that's going to last and be rewarding. Most importantly, something you'll enjoy as well as your family.

Whatever you do this summer Percy's wishes you only the best memories and total safety for you and your family. If you're traveling or staying home, make this the best summer. But if you do stay home, remember Percy's is your #1 place for all your outdoor entertaining needs.

Blu Ray Price Becoming More and More Affordable.

Most Americans now-a-days have no idea what a VHS or VCR is. Our children may grow up to know nothing of what they are, what they do, or what they look like. Kind of like how some of us may have grown up not knowing what 45's or 8 tracks are, our generations are rapidly advancing in technology with another new advancement at our doorstep almost daily.

Blu Ray has come a long way since it's inception back in 1998. From a Blu Ray Recorder in Japan valued at $3800 to Christmas-time in 2007 having Sony Players priced at $800, people wondered if it would ever become affordable. Now 6 months after Christmas, and you can buy a Blu Ray for half the price. Blu Ray movies are quickly moving up in popularity especially now that Blu Ray has taken over the "HD Movie Fued" from HD-DVD. But not just because of the brand name, HD in general is skyrocketing and is becoming a hot commodity.

Luckily, for those of us who don't want to replace our Star Wars collection right away, Blu Ray players have 1080p upconversion so that whatever you watch will be in High Definition. It won't look as good as Blu Ray quality, but hey, it's still an improvement. Blu Ray also comes from whatever brand you want; LG, Panasonic, Samsung, Sony, and Pioneer are the brands we sell at Percy's. You may also need a High Definition TV, if you don't already have one, to display all of Blu Ray's breathtaking imagery. But if you do have a HDTV capable of 1080p, you need to give Blu Ray a shot. You'll definitely be saying "What's DVD?" in no time!

The Celtics Win, and If You Participated, So Do You!

The day has come and gone. The Boston Celtics entered game 6 obviously wanting a win and wanting it in a BIG way! They walked away with a championship, and an impressive 39 point win over the Lakers in the final game of the series. Even though the day has come and gone, the celebrations are just getting started!

It's a time of reflection. Remembering back to the day in December when you got the newspaper ad that looked like this, and you looked at it with a questionable grin. "Your TV & Audio purchases will be FREE if the Boston Celtics win the world championship this season" was the tag line that you read. It had a swirly basketball on it too. You probably thought to yourself, "Yeah right...the Celtics will never pull it off". Now you're thinking "Should'a done it!". It's always one of those things that you know the offer may sound silly, but in retrospect you REALLY wish you would have participated.

But, for those of you faithful fans I congratulate you on a championship well deserved. And for those proud fans who watched the game on their new big screen HDTV purchased at Percy's during the Celtics promotion, I congratulate you even more because now that tv is FREE! Percy's has set up a web page for the Celtics Promotion that you can find up-to-date information regarding the promotion. "When is the payout?", you ask? Well, the Telegram & Gazette did a news article on this promotion in today's paper and here is a direct quote from it:

"Percy’s sales manger Alan S. Lavine said the store bought an insurance policy to cover the potential refunds, which he estimated would come to hundreds of thousands of dollars. He expects to have a check from the insurance company within a few weeks.

“Once we have it, we’ll mail out invitations to come in. We’ll have a little party and give them their refund checks,” Mr. Lavine said."

All in all, Percy's will be contacting you directly regarding the results of this promotion. and when you can come pick up your refund. And if you didn't get a chance to participate in this promo, you never know, we may just do it again. But for now, we at Percy's would sincerely like to congratulate all those customers again for participating, and we hope you enjoy your free tv or home theater!

Take care,

-Brian

The Last Time You Got Something For Free

It's not everyday that someone comes up to you and hands you something for free that ACTUALLY has some value and/or meaning to it. So, I'm going to dedicate this week to FREE stuff. Yesterday I spent a little time talking about free 10% rewards when using your stimulus check here (not literally but...). I've got alot to talk about this week and it's all going to be good for you! I won't have a Celtics Tracker in this blog, but they are playing Game 6 tonight so I'll update you tomorrow.

Since June 1st, Percy's has been promoting LG Electronics. But not just any promotion. You guessed it, a promotion with free LG products! Make any LG purchase from June 1st through June 27th and automatically get 5 entries for 1 of 2 LG bundles. If you don't have the money to spend for a new tv, you can sign up and get 1 entry into the contest, absolutely FREE! The bundles aren't bad either. Each bundle includes a 42" Flat Panel TV, and 1 has a HD DVD/Blu Ray Player while the other has a home theater system

So, if you buy an LG TV, you can get 5 entries, and you could get 2 TV's for the price of 1! Put one in your living room and 1 in your bedroom. Maybe 1 in your den. Or simply sign up to receive 1 entry absolutely free.

If you've entered, you need to be at Percy's in Worcester on Saturday June 28th (time to be announced later) for the drawing of the winners. If you don't win, Percy's will have $25 Gift Cards just for entering. Good luck to all those who enter!

Brian

The Power of 10

"Rate your current phone service provider from 1 to 10." "Lose weight in these 10 easy steps." "On the Tonight Show's Top 10..."

We all know the number 10, it's after 9 and before 11. Most of the world's population has 10 fingers and 10 toes. Most albums on sale have 10 tracks, there are 10 pins in bowling, and 10 yards per completion in football. In kindergarten, everyone at least learns how to count to 10, but kindergartners probably don't know that a polygon with 4 sides is a decagon, and in Roman Numerals 10 is "X". Yeah, 10 is pretty popular.

But what does 10 have to do with Percy's? Well, I could tell you that there's 10 main catagories on our home page (Grills, Air Conditioners, Laundry, TV & Video, Audio, Small Electronics, Cooking, Kitchen, Small Appliances, & Around the Home), but that's not what's important.

No, I'm talking about 10% rewards. More than 130 MILLION Americans received an economic stimulus check from the IRS between May and July. Minimum payments going out were $300 checks with a maximum check of $600 per individual. We've made this the perfect time to buy your new Refrigerator, Range, or TV.

If you come down to Percy's between now and the end of June and make any purchase throughout the store, Percy's will give you a 10% Rewards Card to be used on any future purchase. So, if you come down to Percy's in Worcester, and you spend $1800 on a new tv, Percy's will give you a Reward Card valued at $180 for a future purchase. You can see a little more on this promo here. Any more questions you can contact us for more information.

Come to Percy's in June and feel the Power of 10.

Take Care,

Brian

CELTICS: the Road to FREE TVs

Game by Game ticker info for those who participated in Percy's Celtics Promo

Celtics - 3 Lakers - 2

Game 5 synopsis: The Celtics had a chance in Game 5 to seal the deal with a win on the road, but fell short by only 5 points. Paul Pierce scored 38 points and many of the Celtic's starters were in foul trouble including Ray Allen who had to leave the game. Game 6 comes back to the Garden tomorrow night on ABC and hopefully the Boston Celtics take it all at home!

Here is another recipe from Weber.com:

Skillet Blueberry Cobbler

from Weber’s Real Grilling™ by Jamie Purviance

Prep time: 20 minutes plus 10 minutes to cool
Marinating

Grilling time:
45 to 50 minutes

2 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
4 cups fresh or thawed frozen blueberries, divided
1/2 cup granulated sugar, divided
1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon lemon zest
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1/4 teaspoon grated nutmeg

1-1/4 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1-1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/4 teaspoon kosher salt
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
1/2 cup whole milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 cup heavy cream, whipped (optional)

1. In a nonstick, ovenproof 10-inch skillet over medium heat, melt the butter. Add 2 cups of the blueberries with 1/4 cup of the sugar, stirring frequently until the mixture has the consistency of jam, about 10 minutes. Remove from the heat. Add the remaining 2 cups of blueberries, the remaining 1/4 cup sugar, the flour, lemon zest, lemon juice, and nutmeg to the cooked berries and stir to combine. Make sure all of the whole berries are evenly coated.

2. In a large mixing bowl, sift the flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon. Combine the melted butter, milk, and vanilla and add to the dry ingredients. Continue to mix until well combined, scraping down the sides once. There may still be some lumps. Drop the batter over the fruit in large spoonfuls starting in the middle and working out to the sides, leaving a 1-inch border of exposed fruit around the outside edge. It will seem like there is a shortage of batter, but it will expand while baking.

3. Cook over indirect medium heat (about 350°F), with the lid closed, for 20 minutes. For even cooking, carefully rotate the pan 90 degrees, being careful because the fruit mixture will be bubbling up. Continue to bake until a skewer inserted into the center of the crust comes out clean, 25 to 30 minutes more. Keep the lid closed as often as possible during grilling. Place the skillet on a wire rack and let stand for 10 minutes. Serve while still warm or at room temperature and top with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream, if desired.

Makes 6 to 8 servings
